I specialize in ultra-marathon coaching and have worked with numerous first timers as well as seasoned vets who were looking for a different approach than "just go run". Combining life's ups and downs, busy schedules, and balancing sport, family time, and self care. Training for an ultra doesn't have to consume every weekend or waking hour outside of work. Get the training in, then spend time where it counts with the ones you love. My coaching plans & training philosophy are built upon a background in exercise science, 12 years of track/road racing, and 10 years focusing specifically on trail/ultra endurance events. I take a very mathematical approach to training itself, yet incorporate balance through strength / core work, nutrition discussions, mindfulness, and making sure it all fits smoothly in this up and down world we call life. Training shouldn't feel like a second job or become a stressor in regards to family life. If it does, we should fix that!

This was my first experience using any kind of athletic coach and it was exactly what I needed! I've done a lot of racing over the past 10 years but never a 50 mile ultra and really wanted to make sure I finished, but also remained uninjured in the process. Long story short - I successfully completed the 2018 Lookout Mountain 50 miler on December 15th for my 40th birthday! I really liked Josh's positive thinking and relaxed approach, with an emphasis on not overtraining. I'm a mom of 3, work full time, and also a pastor's wife with many weekend demands and I'm here to say that it's still possible to set a big goal like this and attain it while keeping your life in balance and your family the top priority. I live in south Georgia, just 15 miles above the Florida border so my main concern was being a warm-weather, southern flatlander and picking a winter race with 9000 ft of elevation on technical trails in Chattanooga, TN (I've traditionally been a road runner before this year). Josh gave me great advice on how to work the specific muscles needed to climb and descend, and ultimately although I was very sore post-race I was able to finish and was proud of the climbing legs I developed over the 6 months of training! A big thanks to Josh for helping me reach this important goal of mine.
"I have worked with a running coach before – and it didn’t go so well. I ended up over trained, stressed out, and not enjoying the race that I spent a bunch of time and effort preparing for. My experience in working with Josh was quite the opposite. I met my goals, had a great time, and am hungry for more. When I started working with Josh last spring (2015) – I had just moved from St Louis to Denver – so I was in the midst of acclimatizing to the altitude and the relentless climbs here on the front range of the Rockies. "Going into the 2014 racing season, I was looking for a coach with experience in trail and ultra running. Josh impressed me with his personal success as a runner as well as his background in exercise science. I had a big summer planned with a number of adventurous runs and Josh was really supportive both in helping me train, planning my race strategies, and organizing things around my schedule. I ran the 100 mile distance for the first time in 2014, being the first person to run the entire Rainbow Trail, a trail in South Central Colorado. Josh came out to support me during this adventure, running 16 miles with me through the night, getting me through the lowest point of the effort, and whipping up an excellent grilled cheese sandwich that helped get me through to the end. Josh then coached me to finish Run Rabbit Run 100 in just over 25 hours around two months later. "I started working with Josh in July of 2013. I had just finished my first 50 mile mountain ultra in June and was looking for some guidance with a long string of races I planned to run that summer. (Pikes Ascent, Imogene Pass Run, Mt Taylor 50k). My experience with past coaches led me to believe he would discourage me from doing so much, but he was very positive and realistic about what my summer would look like. He immediately started to increase my training volume beyond what I thought was possible. Josh gave me a training plan week by week to prepare for the grueling summer. I landed up setting a PR by 35 minutes (at Pikes) and was totally shocked by this improvement. A few weeks later I PR'd again at Imogene Pass run by 29 minutes. The following, top 10 at Run Rabbit Run 50, & two weeks after that, top 5 at Mt. Taylor. Each race was strong & consistent, and I owe that to Josh.
