Sunday:
  • DAY OFF!: This was my first day off since December 13th, ending a 191 day running streak that totaled 2,411.7 miles (or an average of 12.6 miles per day / 88.4 miles per week) for the past 6+ months. Time to recover from the SJS 50 & get ready for the Leadville 100 in 8 weeks.
Monday:
  • (PM) Run: 4.02 Mi - 200' - 0:35 - Easy: Easy on the Woods Walk with Ben, Nate, & Sean. My quads are pretty sore from the race, but my energy was high.
Tuesday:
  • (AM) Run: 8.31 Mi - 1,000' - 1:12 - Easy: Met up with Pat O'Neil and did a lap on the Lower Loop. Legs were still a bit tight and sore on the downhills, but otherwise was a good run.
Wednesday:
  • DAY OFF!: Well, this was unplanned but I needed it. Worked 12 hrs in Paonia and was lacking sleep. Completely exhausted and just wanted food & my bed.
Thursday:
  • (PM) Run: 6.72 Mi - 400' - 0:50 - Moderate: After another long day of working in Paonia, ran a quick Tony's-Skyland-Deli Tr loop. Smoke from the South Fork Complex Fire blew up into the valley during the run. Made the air hard to breath and very hazy.
Friday:
  • (AM) Run: 1.40 Mi - 0' - 0:14 - Running Lesson: I gave Mel, a lady that I coach a running lesson before leaving for Breckenridge for the weekend to do some peak bagging and camping.
  • (PM) Mountain Bike: 7.83 Mi - ?' - Time? - Easy: While heading to Breck, I hitched with my Mtn Bike in case I wanted to do some riding. Rode a bit here & there along the way.
Saturday:
  • (AM) Run: 9.15 Mi - 4,300' - 2:51 - Run/Hike: Met up with Jess in Breck for a weekend of peak bagging. Ran/hiked up Mt Democrat (14,148'), Mt Cameron (14,238'), Mt Lincoln (14,286'), Mt Bross (14,172'). Tried out my new Altra Lone Peak 1.5's - the traction is great, the fit is a bit relaxed which is fine, but on scree was a bit sloppy until I got used to them.

Week Totals

Running: 29.60 Miles, 5,900' Vert, 5 Hrs, 42 Min.
Mountain Biking: 7.83 Miles, ?' Vert, ? Hr, ? Min

Summary

This was a great recovery week. I definitely learned a lot after Quad Rock 50 where I over did it and took two weeks to get my legs back under me. This time though, I took a few days off, and only did easy runs for most of the week. That allowed me to be ready to go after some peaks by Saturday, just 7 days after the SJS 50. Sunday - Friday was very chill and I barely did anything. On Saturday though, I was in Breckenridge and was able to bag four 14ers. Now that Leadville is just 7 weeks out, I hope to get back into a routine and jump back into my normal training. Easy volume and maybe some more peaks next week and then off to the San Juans for Hardrock week.
