Training Recap: July 14 - 20

Sunday:
  • (AM) Mtn Bike: 5.65 Mi - 1,000' - 0:50 - Easy: Rode to a couple aid stations watching the Silver Rush 50 in Leadville.
  • (PM) Run: 8.25 Mi - 900' - 1:26 - Easy: This run went from somewhat enjoyable to miserable very fast. Got stuck in a thunderstorm and with the huge drop in temps, torrential rain, hail, and wind.. I was practically hypothermic by the time I was able to hitch a ride.
Monday:
  • (AM) Run: 7.47 Mi - 900' - 1:06 - Easy: Back in CB. Easy run with Benn on the Lower Loop. Legs are not sore, but can still feel Saturday in them.
Tuesday:
  • Day Off: This is getting old. I need some motivation...
Wednesday:
  • (AM) Run: 12.07 Mi - 600' - 1:17 - Tempo: The goal was to run a solid marathon effort to Gunny, then the last couple miles would be whatever. I made it 11 miles feeling strong before my stomach went haywire. Hit 10 miles in 62:40, right on 2:45 marathon pace (at 8,000+ ft). Canned it after the stomach issues, and hitched home.
Thursday:
  • (PM) Run: 9.76 Mi - 3,700' - 2:00 - Mountain: This was a last minute decision.. Had planned to do an easy run before a long run tomorrow, but instinctively turned up The Plunge and tagged the summit of Red Lady (12,392 ft). Bumped into Jesse & Chris on the peak, and ran down with them.
Friday:
  • (AM) Run: 33.01 Mi - 4,900' - 4:54 - Long: It was either 4 Pass or run long from home, and I was not feeling like a two hour mtn bike ride at 4:00 AM. Got up and had a relaxing morning, then Sean & I headed out the door around 9:00. Took the Lower Loop, Slate River Rd, Slate D'Huez, Schofield Pass, 401, then home via Gothic Rd. Feeling a bit worked after.. tomorrow is going to be interesting.
Saturday:
  • (AM) Run: 16.73 Mi - 6,400' - 5:38 - Mountain(s): Ruby Range Traverse! After just 3 hrs of sleep, woke up at 5:00, got picked up by Chris at 5:30, and was "running" at 6:30 sharp. I say "running" because my legs were shot from the past few days.. it took a good 2 hrs to get them moving somewhat normal. But, it was an awesome day out there, so no complaints.

Week Totals

Running: 87.29 Miles, 17,400' Vert, 16 Hrs, 21 Min
Mountain Bike: 5.65 Mi - 1,000' - 0 Hr, 50 Min

Summary

Another week is complete & accounted for. Similar to last week, I had a low patch in the middle where I was feeling unmotivated (yet again), and decided to take a day off. I more than made up for it though with a killer 48 hour stretch to finish it out: Red Lady lap Thursday night, 33 miler Friday morning, followed by the Ruby Range Traverse and 9 more peaks Saturday morning. Needless to say, my legs are shot. Just 4 weeks out from the Leadville 100 now and I need to get PSYCHED. Who wants to run these next two weeks? It would be great to have some training partners. Crested Butte this coming week, followed by Leadville the week after? Any takers, hit me up.
